Through My Lens
Through My Lens is a deeply personal exploration of love, identity, and nature. Kadence and I began camping together so she could create her own body of work—capturing queer women in spaces typically dominated by men and not always considered safe for women to navigate alone. Doing so challenges and proves that mindset to be untrue at times, as we create our own narratives and find strength in reclaiming those spaces as women.
Growing up in the city, I was taught to navigate life within the confines of traditional expectations. I was raised to be straight, and while it was easy for me to realize that I could love someone for who they are, not their gender, this understanding wasn’t as easily embraced by my loved ones. My relationship with Kadence opened a new chapter in my life—one where I could experience love in its most authentic form.
This body of work also reflects my reconnection with the natural world. As a child, camping with my family was a source of joy and peace, but as an adult, I had drifted away from it. Rediscovering the love of camping while being in love has allowed me to reclaim that sense of freedom and wonder, now shared with Kadence. Through My Lens reveals the love, vulnerability, and personal growth that have shaped me through our journey together—capturing the harmony between love, nature, and self-discovery.
This is a body of work that will always be in progress, just as our love and our journey continue to evolve. It reflects not only the stories we’ve lived but also those yet to unfold. Through this work, I invite viewers to see love not as a label but as an experience and to appreciate the profound beauty that exists both within ourselves and in the wild places we explore.
